Mary Barnard Award

Dr. Mary Wheeler Barnard was a San Francisco Soroptimist from 1966 until her death in 2009. She was born in New Hampshire and moved to San Francisco while in her early 20’s where she practiced dentistry for 43 years. Dr. Barnard suffered from Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy for several years until her death March 3, 2009. She always attended our monthly dinners and social events until her illness interfered. Upon her death Mary’s family suggested donations be made to Soroptimist International of San Francisco in lieu of flowers.

The Club invested the donations and every year awards a grant to a  woman studying dentistry and who gives service to her community.

Nominations or interested parties should submit the following before February 1:

• Letter of interest
• Resume
• Recommendation letter from school official
